The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will conduct the January 2020 Labor Force Survey (LFS) enumeration starting on January 8, 2020. PSA regular staff and hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) will undertake the survey from January 8 to 31, 2019 using the Computer Aided Personal Interview (CAPI). The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Ilocos Region in October 2019 (2012-based) was recorded at 119.7. This figure is 0.2 percentage points lower than the October 2018’s figure of 119.9. In the previous month, the region’s CPI was pegged at 119.5. The top three commodity groups that recorded high price indices were: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (186.8); food and non-alcoholic beverages (126.7); and furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (123.5). The overall fisheries production in Ilocos Region grew by 8.08 percent in 3rd quarter 2019. From the total output of 23,365 metric tons in 3rd quarter 2018, it accelerated to 25,253 metric tons this year. Palay production in 3rd quarter 2019 was posted at 186,265 metric tons, higher than the estimate in 3rd quarter 2018 of 152,465 metric tons. Early plantings were made due to the presence of early rains and lesser destructive typhoons, unlike last year. Harvesting scheduled in October 2019 were already done during the period due to fast maturity and good weather. Thus, harvest area expanded from 38,506 hectares to 38,807 hectares. The number of registered live births in Ilocos Region during the third quarter of 2019 summed up to 23,895, a slight increase of 0.2 percent compared to 23,839 births in the same period of 2018. The daily average birth occurrence during the third quarter of 2019 was computed at 260 births or an average of 11 babies born per hour.
