The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is conducting regularly the Quarterly Municipal Fisheries Survey (QMFS). This aims to generate volume and value of municipal fisheries production by species at the provincial, regional, and national levels. This is in accordance with Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 (Philippine Statistical Act of 2013), which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of the economy and Executive Order No. 352 mandating the regular conduct of QMFS.

Philippines is an archipelago, composed of cluster of islands surrounded by sea and ocean, in which, fishing plays a vital role in the Philippine economy. Our government made initiatives to monitor the volume and value of municipal fisheries production. The data generated from these surveys are disseminated through statistical tables, quarterly bulletins, annual situation reports, infographics, and publication. Moreover, the production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the valuation of production in Philippine agriculture and fisheries, and accordingly to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Meanwhile, to drum up support and cooperation from the fisherfolks of the sample Fish Landing Centers in the province continues its effort for an informed community about the ongoing Fisheries surveys. And as always, PSA Siquijor is dedicated to continue its thrust in disseminating information regarding the regularly conducted statistical activity.

PSA, Siquijor PSO is represented by SS II Postrado in the various scheduled meetings in the barangays and fisherfolks associations as this will promote better understanding and assure an accurate and reliable data collected from the fisherfolks.
